Welcome to the Torgny Segerstedt Foundation

By avoiding all risks, you also lose all chances. Torgny Segerstedt (1876-1945) lived his entire life in the same courageous spirit and became Sweden’s most prominent and persistent opponent of Nazism.

The Torgny Segerstedt Foundation was founded in 1996 to preserve his legacy and continue his work to promote democracy and freedom of expression.

The Foundation annually awards two prizes: The Freedom Pen, to a distinguished writer, and The Freedom Tone, which highlights the role of music in the struggle for freedom.

Contributions from the Foundation have also made it possible to establish a visiting professorship in the Memory of Torgny Segerstedt at the University of Gothenburg. Other activities include lectures and an annual publication.
